Accessibility details

The Poble Espanyol was built in the first half of the 20th century and therefore has some architectural barriers. However, although it isn’t one hundred per cent accessible to wheelchair users, many areas of the grounds can be visited without any problems. The Poble is a fully pedestrianised and car-free zone.

Audioguides are available in several languages: English, Catalan, Spanish, French and Italian.

Groups can also take a pre-booked personalised guided tour or go on one of the treasure hunts. Reservations by e-mail inforeserva@poble-espanyol.com or phone 935 08 6300. Audioguides can be hired from 9am to 8pm.

There are no reduced admission prices for disabled visitors, but their carers enter free of charge.
Visual impairment
The Poble Espanyol offers visually impaired visitors many interesting objects that can be explored by touch. These include the handicrafts that are made and sold on the site, or the works on display in the open-air sculpture garden in de Fundació Fran Daurel.

Motor impairment: accessible with assistance
The Poble has two entrances. The one on the left-hand side of the ticket offices is suitable for wheelchair users as its different sections are moderately sloping and can be negotiated without difficulties.

Wheelchair users will require assistance to reach the main entrance due to the differences in level.

Many areas inside the Poble Espanyol are wheelchair accessible. The streets have a maximum gradient of 12%, meaning that they are reasonably accessible. Nevertheless, there are areas that can only be reached via steps, although it is important to point out that ergonomically designed handrails have been fitted to make access easier for visitors with reduced mobility. Some shops, bars and restaurants have chairlifts.

Due to the architectural characteristics of this historic landmark, the entrances to some of the shops have steps.

There are adapted toilets just off the Plaza Mayor.
Cognitive impairment
In 2004, the Artesà and ASPASIM Foundations joined forces to create the first craft therapy workshop inside the Poble Espanyol. The workshop is located in the Plaza Mayor and can cater to groups of 12 people aged between 18 and 65. Monitors are provided. The workshop offers activities in a variety of disciplines: macramé, sewing, painting, ceramics, costume jewellery, etc.

One of the objectives of craft therapy is to help people with learning difficulties integrate into society. In addition to teaching them how to produce handicrafts and providing alternative means of employment and leisure activities, the craft therapy workshops are going one step further towards eliminating social barriers.

You can contact ASPASIM by e-mail: aspasim.poble-espanyol.com, aspasim@cim.es or phone 934 234 029.
